Laura is an independent strategy consultant within the charity sector specialising in volunteering, fundraising and governance. Her clients have included Sport England, CIPD, MS Society, Cycling UK, First Tech Challenge UK, England Netball and the Jon Egging Trust since setting up her consultancy.
Laura has worked for 15 years in the charity sector for a range of local and national organisations. She holds a number of qualifications from the Centre for Charity Effectiveness, Cass Business School, including an MSc in Charity Marketing and Fundraising, PGDip in Voluntary Sector Management, and Certificates in Grant-making and Philanthropy Management, NGO Management and Governance.
Laura is a member of the Association of Volunteer Managers, the Institute of Fundraising and ICSA The Governance Institute.
Prior to becoming a consultant Laura has led on volunteer learning and development nationally at Parkinson’s UK and was national volunteering and governance manager at England Netball. Laura worked alongside NCVO, Nesta and the Cabinet Office to pioneer volunteering programmes for serving prisoners in the North of England and previously managed Volunteer Centre Leeds. She has a strong track record in fundraising success from a range of trusts and foundations and has worked with a number of national charities to build robust, insight led strategies to enable charities to build supporter movements.
Laura is passionate about diversity and transparency in governance and uses her volunteer recruitment, marketing and strategy expertise to support organisations to better recruit and train their trustees and committee members.
At England Netball Laura led on a sport wide governance review and developed a toolkit to enable over 40 sports governing committees to work towards compliance with the Sport England Code of Governance including tools to significantly improve board member recruitment. Laura also volunteers as a mentoring at the Small Charities Coalition supporting small NGOs to build robust governance and strategy.
